Bluesky allows users to customize their handles using a domain they own.
Bluesky supports decentralized identifiers (DIDs), which means you can use a domain you own as your handle.
(e.g., @yourdomain.com
instead of @handle.bsky.social
).
This feature is perfect for individuals or businesses looking to establish a unique and professional identity on the platform.
Firstly, ensure you have a domain registered with a domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains).
Luckily, for people who don’t have domains, Bluesky is integrated with Namecheap so their users can directly buy domains through Bluesky.
Here’s how you can set up your domain as your bluesky handle;
- Open Settings
- Find the Handle Option – Scroll down until you see the Advanced section. Click on Change Handle.
- Choose Your Own Domain – Select the option that says I have my own domain.
- Enter Your Domain – Type in your domain (e.g.,
yourdomain.com
) and choose DNS Panel. - Copy the Domain Value – Click the Copy Domain Value button. This copies a special code that Bluesky gives you.
- Go to Your Domain Provider – Log in to the website where you bought your domain (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.). Find the option to Manage DNS.
- Add a New TXT Record
Create a new DNS record with these details:
Host:
_atproto
Value: Paste the code you copied from Bluesky.
TTL: Set this to the lowest number available (usually 3600).
8. Verify the DNS Record – Go back to Bluesky and click Verify DNS Record.
If everything is done correctly, your handle will change to your domain.
