What are Starter Packs in Bluesky?
Starter packs are user-curated lists of recommended Bluesky accounts that invite other Bluesky users to follow.
From Bluesky themselves, “Starter packs are personalized invites that allow you to bring friends directly into your slice of Bluesky.”
Starter packs provide an easy way for new Bluesky users to follow interesting Bluesky accounts based on their interests and for new users to be noticed by other accounts.
Think of it this way: you move to a new city, find one friend, and that one friend introduces you to 100 people- that’s what starter packs do.
How to Create a Bluesky Starter Pack
Here is how you can create starter packs in Bluesky:
1. Click on the Starter Packs tab on your profile page. It is between Feeds and Lists.
Here, you will see all your starter packs, but since we haven’t created any yet, they will be empty.
2. Create a starter pack
There are two ways to create a starter pack: you can either create one yourself or let Bluesky generate one for you
The easiest way to create a starter pack is to let Bluesky generate one for you. It will automatically add people from your network.
You can then edit it however you want.
To create a starter pack yourself, click on ‘Create’
You will be prompted to provide a name and a description of the starter pack.
You can choose the accounts you want to add to your starter pack on the next page. You need a minimum of seven accounts and the maximum number of accounts in a starter pack is 150.
After you’re done with choosing the accounts, you can choose the feeds that you want to recommend.
Your starter pack will be live when you’re done, and you can share it with others.
How to Add Accounts to An Existing Starter Pack
Adding people to an existing starter pack is not as straightforward as adding them to a list.
Here is how you can add accounts to an existing starter pack:
1. Click on the starter pack that you want to add people from your starter packs list on your profile page
2. Click on edit from the three dots
3. Click next on the name and description page
4. Search for accounts that you want to add and check them to add them
You can also see how many accounts are on this page in your starter pack.
5. Click on next and then click on finish to save your starter pack
This process is a bit tedious, and it would be cool to add accounts to a starter pack, similar to how we add accounts to a list.
We hope this will be available soon because someone has already proposed (and made a version that works) this in GitHub, and the Bluesky team will implement it soon.
